About me

I'm a non-binary director, writer and composer. My work blends text with music across a range of different theatrical forms.

I'm the artistic director of the award-winning GOYA theatre company, which makes queer music theatre. In 2023 I was named one of The Stage's Fringe Five and in 2024 was given the August O'Neill Award by the JMK. I have worked as an assistant director at venues including Theatre Royal Bath, The Mill at Sonning, The North Wall Arts Centre, Jermyn Street Theatre, The Oxford Playhouse and The Savoy Theatre.

I was the resident assistant director at The Orange Tree Theatre and I have an MFA in theatre directing from Birkbeck College London.

'Mark my words, Sam Woof is going to be a strong voice in musical theatre in years to come'

Musical Theatre Review

'A gripping and stylish revival... Terrific direction from Woof.'

Oxford Mail

'Woof's writing is exceedingly clever, candid and fun'

Playbill

'The main thing to take away from this production is Woof’s talent as a musical theatre composer and lyricist. The score has a maturity that’s as refreshing as it is complex, packed with beautiful harmonies, tight lyrics and more than a couple of standout ballads.'
